Interactive. Innovative. Fun.

With “Webcam Greetings,” Hallmark Cards updated the timeless greeting card for the digital age.

This was one of the first major implementations of Augmented Reality technology in consumer products, long before Instagram face filters or Microsoft’s HoloLens. Augmented Reality takes real-world information — in our case, a webcam video feed from the user’s computer — and augments it with an interactive digital experience that reacts to the user’s input. After downloading a small application, the user simply holds up their card to the camera. The visuals on screen respond to the card’s location, rotation, and angle to produce some amazing results.

A simple greeting card can be instantly transformed into a stage for a play; the reins for riding a dragon; a skateboard in a half-pipe; or to unlock augmented facial tracking — far before Instagram took that experience mainstream.

We partnered with major licensors from across the entertainment and media spectrum to deliver brand experiences that our users would love. You can see a few of our partners below.

My personal responsibilities included game and interaction design, copy writing, and voice talent direction.

Winner of five AIGA Kansas City design awards, “Experimental Interactive” category.
